Castle Frank (Toronto Subway)
Castle Frank is an underground subway station in Toronto . It is on the Bloor-Danforth Line of the Toronto Subway , at the intersection of Bloor Street and Sherbourne Street. The station has side platforms and is used by an average of 8,350 passengers every day (2015). Despite its proximity to the center, it is one of the least frequented in the entire network, which is due to the low density of buildings in the area.
There are transfer options to three bus routes. The station is located in a short tunnel between two above-ground winding sections. Immediately to the west, the route crosses the Castle Frank Brook gorge (also called Rosedale Ravine) on a bridge . To the east, the Prince Edward Viaduct bridges the Don River . The gorge and the station were named after Castle Frank , the summer residence of Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe, built not far from this point in 1794 . The house named after his son Francis burned down in 1829, but the name stuck.
The station opened on February 26, 1966, along with the Keele - Woodbine section . Up until that day, a reversing loop on the Toronto tram was in operation at this point . The Toronto Transit Commission abandoned the tram line through Parliament Street, which adjoins it to the south, in accordance with its closure policy at the time, although it would certainly have served a feeder function. A reconstruction planned in 1996 failed due to a lack of financial resources and low passenger forecasts.
