Castlebourne Folly

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Castlebourne Folly is a folly in the village of Belbroughton in the English county of Worcestershire . It was built at the end of the 18th century, like the similar Folly Clent Castle in the village of Clent, 3.5 km away . In the middle of the 19th century a country house called Castlebourne (originally: Castle Bourne ) in the style of a Gothic castle was built near the Folly and connected to it by an 18 meter long and 5.4 meter high wall with an archway. The Folly, Wall and Villa have been listed as Grade II Historic Buildings by English Heritage .

description

The Folly and the later house were built on a mound . The Folly has a square floor plan with three bays . The two outer bays are formed by two-story corner towers. On the south side, the towers on the ground floor have pointed arched windows, some of which are blind, and on the upper floor cloverleaf-shaped windows with reliefs in the form of Maltese crosses above them . The middle yoke has a lime entrance door with a pointed arch, a relief above it and recesses. There is a blind window on the floor above the entrance. The roof is slated and has a parapet with battlements. The wall that connects the Folly with the house runs to the southwest and has a crenellated parapet over an ornate cornice .
