Franz Wollmann

Franz Wollmann (born February 12, 1871 in Kriesdorf , Kingdom of Bohemia , † September 23, 1961 in Vienna ) was an Austrian educator .

Life

Hofrat Franz Wollmann studied German , English , Romance studies and pedagogy at the University of Vienna and went on study trips to England , France and Switzerland . In 1899 he solemnly graduated from sub auspiciis Imperatoris . From 1898 to 1911 Wollmann taught at the regional high school in Krems an der Donau , until 1918 he was also director of the teacher training institute in Krems, then in Vienna.

From 1919 to 1922 he was state school inspector for Lower Austria , from 1922 to 1933 for elementary schools in Vienna, then until 1938 director of the state examination commission for elementary and secondary schools in Krems, Hollabrunn, Vienna and Esperanto .

From 1929 to 1935 Wollmann was a lecturer for Esperanto at the Technical University of Vienna . He was forced into retirement in 1938 and reappointed director of the Pedagogical Institute of the City of Vienna in 1945 , i.e. the successor institution to the former teacher training institute .

Wollmann contributed to the development and expansion of Austrian teacher training, the examination system for elementary, secondary and special schools as well as mother and foreign language teaching. He promoted the Esperanto movement and was a pioneer of the German unity shorthand . Wollmann was a member of the Vienna branch of the (General) German Language Association and an honorary member of the Vienna Mother Tongue Association .
