Castleknock ( Irish Caisleán Cnucha ) is a suburb of Dublin and administratively belongs to County Fingal . It is located 8 km west of the Irish capital and has a population of 23,199 (2011).

In the Finn cycle of Celtic mythology of Ireland , Fionn mac Cumhaill's father Cumhall mac Basna is beheaded by Goll mac Morna - an opponent, but also a follower of Fionn - on behalf of Tadg mac Nuadat in the battle of Caisleán Cnucha (Castleknock) . Goll loses an eye during the fight. After this battle, Goll becomes leader of the Fianna . As a child, Cumball's son Fionn had to be hidden from the Morna clan.
