Castulo ( Greek  Κασταλών Kastaloni ) was the capital of the Iberian Oretani . It was located on the upper reaches of the Baetis ( Guadalquivir ) about 7 km south of today's Linares in Andalusia in Spain . There were silver mines and lead pits nearby, which made the city economically important.

Before the Second Punic War , Castulo was under the rule of Carthage . Hannibal married a resident of Castulo, who according to Silius Italicus was called Imilke . However, the city presented itself in the course of the Second Punic War in 214 BC. On the side of Carthage's enemy, the Roman Republic . Another change from Castulos to Hannibal's side took place in 211 BC.
