Catandica ( formerly Vila Gouveia ) is a small town in Mozambique with about 29,000 inhabitants (2008).

geography

Catandica is located in the district of Bárue , ( Province of Manica ), around 30 kilometers from the border with Zimbabwe and 300 kilometers from Beira at an altitude of 536  m . The district takes its name from the ancient Kingdom of Barue .

history

The place was founded in 1915 as Vila Gouveia and only renamed Catandica after Mozambique's independence in 1975.
