Catherine Lodge is a villa in the Scottish village of Inveresk in the East Lothian Council Area . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

history

Between 1765 and 1787 Archibald Christie gradually acquired the properties that are now combined to form Catherine Lodge. Christie invested a total of £ 212 for this. In 1769 he had the residential buildings demolished on the site of the villa and the Catherine Lodge built. It was named after Catherine Fergusson . Leslie Moddie lived in the property in the 1830s , followed by Henrietta Fergusson . In 1918 the Cowan family acquired the Catherine Lodge. For decades it served as the residence of the principal of the Loretto School .

Catherine Lodge is located off Inveresk Village Road in the center of Inveresk. On the opposite side of the street there are three other listed villas: the Inveresk Lodge , the Halkerston Lodge and The Manor House . The southwest-facing front of the three-story building is five axes wide. The facades are plastered with Harl . A front staircase with decorative, cast-iron balusters leads to the central, two-winged main portal. It is crowned by a cantilevered cornice . The facade closes with a triangular gable with a coat of arms, the year of construction and the initials "AC" in the tympanum . The building closes with a slate hipped roof .

On the east side, there is an extension from the 19th century, which breaks the symmetry. In contrast to the original building, it is only two-story. Adjacent, set back, is another extension with a flat roof . The rear of the villa is five axes wide. Two stairs with simple iron railings go down.
