Caye Chapel is an island off the coast of Belize . It belongs to the Belize District . The island is privately owned.

Caye Chapel is one of the 450 or so islands of the Belize Barrier Reef . It is located 16 miles northeast of Belize City and three miles south of Caye Caulker . The historical Spanish name is Cayo Capilla .

The island has a 1,000-meter-long airstrip, an 18-hole golf course (one of three in Belize) designed by Patrick Horvat (Tee Time International Inc.) and a resort with conference rooms. The resort and golf course were built by the US coal tycoon Larry Addington, who filed for personal bankruptcy on January 26, 2012. After the island had been up for sale for over 40 million US dollars for a while, it was acquired by the Mexican investment firm Thor Urbana for an undisclosed amount in 2014. In 2017, Thor Urbana announced plans to invest $ 250 million in expanding the island.

The island is now owned by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts . Luxury resorts and private apartments are to be built on the island by 2021.
