Royal Döner is the largest kebab production company in Switzerland, based in Winterthur . The company has a market share of 60% in kebab production in Switzerland (2018) and is also active internationally.

organization

Royal Döner has its headquarters and main production facility in Winterthur-Hegi. CeDe Royal Döner used to have two subsidiaries, namely “Nan Bäckerei GmbH” (until 2018) and Aria Getränke GmbH (until 2011). The company also has branches in Germany, Italy and the USA.

history

The company was founded by the Kurdish Zeynel Demir, a political refugee who had to flee from Turkey to Greece at the age of 28 because of his involvement in a left-wing organization under threat of the death penalty and who came to Switzerland two years later, in 1987 . There he initially worked in a small local shop in Winterthur-Töss , which, however, was not profitable. However, since there was great demand for his kebab meat, he founded CeDe in October 1993, which was constituted two years later on January 29, 1995 as CeDe GmbH . The name is made up of the first two letters of the surnames of the two company founders.

After the company was initially quartered in a horse butcher's shop and later in the old slaughterhouse in Winterthur, CeDe moved into the building of the former Migros large butcher shop in the Grüze in 1999 . After the co-owner withdrew, the company was renamed “CeDe Royal Döner” on April 13, 1999. During the whole time the company's market share grew by up to 30% annually. In 2016, the kebab producer employed around 160 people. Social issues are also important to the company founder, so all employees of the company earn exactly the same regardless of their training status and there is a free canteen available to them. The company also finances social projects in Turkey. In 2014 the Royal Döner Foundation was established for this purpose . The company now operates as a stock corporation under the name Royal Döner.

As space became scarce due to further growth, the company moved to a newly built, over 8,000 m² production facility at Holzwingertstrasse 44 in the summer of 2017. With the new production business, Zeynel Demir's son Sivan Demir should also slowly take over the business, with Zeynel Demir currently still working as CEO (as of 2020).
