Celestina Popa

Celestina Popa-Toma , b. Popa , (born July 12, 1970 in Ploieşti ) is a former Romanian gymnast .

In 1985 Popa took part in the world championships for the first time . In Montreal she was runner-up in the team all-around competition. At the World Championships in 1987 Popa was world champion with the Romanian team.

In 1988 she took part in the Olympic Games . In Seoul, Popa won the silver medal with the Romanian team. In addition, she started in the individual all-around, in floor exercise, in horse jumping, on the balance beam and on the uneven bars, but could not reach a final.

In 1989 she ended her competitive sports career after a knee injury. She then worked as a trainer, first in Ploieşti and later in Canada. In 2009 she and her husband Flaviu Toma, a former Romanian gymnast, opened the Celestina Popa Gymnastics in Canada .
