Celso Otero , full name Celso Otero Quintas , (born February 1, 1958 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football goalkeeper .

Player career

The 1.79 meter tall goalkeeper Otero, who also played for Club Atlético Alto Perú , was under contract with Nacional in the early stages of his career from 1978 to 1979 . In 1980 Danubio on the one hand and Racing on the other hand are listed as his employer. From 1982 to 1988 he was a member of the Montevideo Wanderers squad in the Primera División . In 1985, the team was Uruguayan runner-up. From 1989 to 1991 he was registered with Rentistas . For 1990, however, other sources lead him back to the Wanderers.

National team

Otero was also a member of the Uruguayan senior team , with which he took part in the 1986 World Cup. National coach Omar Borrás did not use Otero's services in this competition. In the run-up to the tournament, however, he came in the friendlies of the Celeste on May 11, 1986 against Junior de Barranquilla and on May 14, 1986 against Atlético Nacional in the national team. In 1988, two more internationals followed when he was set up at the Copa Ciudad de Bogotá on August 4 against Independiente de Santa Fe and on August 7 against Colombia . The latter game, in which the national team was supervised by Óscar Tabárez 'assistant Gregorio Pérez , was Otero's only official international match as a player.

Coaching

Otero has been assistant coach under Óscar Tabárez for the Uruguayan national team at least since he took office in 2006 . At the first two international matches of the Celeste after the 2014 World Cup on September 5, 2014 against the Japanese team and on September 8, 2014 against the South Korean team, he and Mario Rebollo were responsible for Tabárez, who was recovering from the effects of an operation Coaching team.
