Marcel Fournier

Marcel Fournier (born March 2, 1914 in Annecy , † January 6, 1985 ) was a French entrepreneur .

Life

Fournier came from a merchant family in Annecy. His parents were wholesalers and retailers in hosiery and haberdashery. At the age of 18 he started working in his parents' business. During a trip to the USA in 1950 he got to know the self-service shops there. Ultimately, based on this experience, he founded the French retail company Carrefour together with Denis Defforey and Jacques Defforey in 1959 , the initiative of Denis' older brother Louis Defforey . He later became PDG of the group, from whose head he retired in 1979 at the age of 65.
