Celtic Crypt is a band from South Westphalia that was founded in 1987.

history

The band began as a school band at the Märkisches Gymnasium Schwelm in Westphalia with a mix of rock music with distinctive folk influences and English-language singing. The first known appearance took place in 1989, also in the district town of the Ennepe-Ruhr district .

The founding members are Wolf-P. Daude ( bass ), Stefan Hammermeister ( guitar ), Olaf Reinwald ( drums ), Dirk Weuster ( keyboard ) and Marc Sieper ( vocals ).

"The Rebirth of a Celtic Dream", a live music concept with distinctly Irish influences, which describes the journey of a randomly selected person into a surrealistic parallel universe, attracted first attention. With song titles like "The Rebirth", "Shepherd's Song" or "When I Open Up My Eyes" the foundation stone was laid for later success. Celtic Crypt toured Germany between 1989 and 1992 with the live concept. In 1992 the first studio production "Innovation One" followed, an EP with the songs "New Age" and "The Night is Full of Fear", which also received attention on the radio for the first time. This was the first time the idiosyncratic mix of styles of indie , new wave and hard rock was revealed .

At the height of their first success, Celtic Crypt broke up and the band members scattered across Germany, but remained musically active in other formations.

Time out

Singer and lyricist Marc Sieper wrote Dracula "Das Musical" ( Hollysound Records, 1995) in the mid-1990s , which was played for two years in Wetter an der Ruhr. A song from the musical, "How far can you go?" goes back to a song by Celtic Crypt that was never released.

Singer and lyricist Sieper achieved the greatest success when he landed a hit in the German single charts in 2006 with his text Dein Herz for the Austrian band L'Âme Immortelle .

Reunion

In 2004 the band made a comeback , in 2005 the studio album "Wallenstein" was recorded, but it was not released until the end of 2007. The album is characterized by indie, new wave and gothic rock influences, with partly experimental, surrealistic and melancholic lyrics.

Since 2008, Martin Prang has been an additional musician who supports the band with acoustic and electric guitar.
