Celtic Marseille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Celtic de Marseille is a former women's football club from Marseille . He was represented for three years in Division 1 Féminine , the highest French league.

history

In 1970 Celtic de Beaumont established a women's football department; Beaumont is an administrative district belonging to Saint-Julien in the 12th arrondissement of Marseille . In 1999 the women went into business for themselves and founded their own association, Celtic de Marseille . They played their home games at the Stade Le Cesne . In 2007, the regional association FFF banned them from all national competitions because club members had unsporting arguments with opposing players on the pitch, in the changing rooms and also at the train station on the occasion of a match against VGA Saint-Maur .

As a result, a club was founded in 2010 under the name Football Association Marseille Féminin , which is usually abbreviated as FAMF and which is the immediate successor to Celtic. The club colors of FAMF are navy blue and white; In the 2014/15 season, the second division eleven was coached by Sophie Sillère , a former Swiss national player.

League affiliation and achievements

Until the establishment of a unified national league in 1992, Celtic Beaumont, unlike (until the mid-1980s) Olympique Marseille , was never represented in the championship finals. In the summer of 1996, the women then rose to Division 1 Féminine and ended their first season in ninth place in the table. Twelve months later they had to return to the bottom of the league. For the 2000/01 season they belonged to the D1F again, but could not prevent their immediate relegation as they were twelfth. Subsequently, Celtic was more or less “passed through” and from 2002 to 2004 only played in the third division. There followed three years in the D2 and then the association-side relegation, after which Celtic temporarily only appeared in the fourth highest division. The first women in FAMF returned to the second division in 2012, where they had to face their local rivals Olympique for the first time in the 2014/15 season .

In the national cup competition , which has been held since 2001 , Celtic Marseille reached the main round four times (2002/03, 2003/04, 2004/05, 2006/07), but were eliminated in each of the sixteenth finals. Successor FAMF made it to the thirty-second finals for the first time in 2012/13 and made it to the second round in 2013/14 . In 2014/15 the two leading Marseille clubs met not only in the league, but also in the cup.

Well-known former players

The dress from Celtic Beaumont / Marseille was worn by four future national team players , all of whom were already used in the league team at a young age before moving to bigger clubs. These were Élodie Ramos (1997-2001 with Celtic), Caroline Pizzala (2001-2005 and again in 2006/07), Louisa Nécib (2002-2004) and Jessica Houara (2006/07). The goalkeeper Véronique Pons (2001-2003) was not a national player, but later won four national championship titles with Olympique Lyon . Marie-Françoise Sidibé (1994-2001), however, only came to this club at the end of her career.
