The Center for Advanced Studies (DHBW CAS) of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University is a state-recognized university in Heilbronn that was founded in 2014.

It bundles the master’s courses that were previously offered at the DHBW study academies. The first study started on October 1, 2014. In addition to the master’s degree programs, the Center for University Didactics and Lifelong Learning (ZHL) is also located at the DHBW CAS. The DHBW test center has been located at the CAS since March 2017. There, the study aptitude test for prospective students with a subject-related higher education entrance qualification (the so-called delta examination) and the study aptitude test for prospective students with professional qualifications are taken.

Departments

The DHBW CAS is divided into three departments.

Education

The dual study at DHBW CAS consists of an academic study and a practical study. The academic part takes place at the DHBW CAS or locally at one of the DHBW study academies. The practical part of the course is completed in the partner company. The company, also known as a dual partner, can be a company as well as a public or private institution. In order to train students, the company must first be classified as suitable by the DHBW. The standard period of study for the dual master’s degree is four semesters. The time schedule for the course is divided into two to four-day attendance blocks, which take place around once a month. Between the blocks of presence, the students work as normal employees in their companies or institutions. The students receive a salary from their employer throughout their studies. The Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University describes this study model as job-integrating. It is not only studied part-time, but there is also a direct link between course content and professional activity. The topics for the scientific work to be carried out during the course (e.g. project work and master's thesis) are selected and worked on in close coordination with the employer.

Structure of the course

The courses of study at the DHBW CAS have a modular structure. This means that there is the possibility of setting individual priorities within the courses and fields of study. This enables students to compose their curriculum closely based on professional requirements and personal interests. The range of modules is supplemented by the "interdisciplinary skills". In this interdisciplinary competence training, skills for general personal development are imparted.

Admission requirements

A university degree with at least 180 ECTS credit points or an equivalent university degree is a prerequisite for a master’s degree at CAS. The course must have been completed with an overall grade of at least 2.5 or with an ECTS classification A or B. The students must have at least one to two years of professional experience and be employed by an employer during their studies.

Accreditation

The Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University has been system- accredited by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency since December 2011 . This means that all courses have an accreditation.
