The Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS) is a political science research institute made up of the Institute for Political Science at the University of Zurich and the political science chairs at ETH Zurich . The CIS is headed by Stefanie Walter (March 2019) .

Research priorities

The research extends across the entire spectrum of political science research, with questions of democracy , political violence and economic research being in the foreground.

In 2005, the Swiss National Science Foundation awarded the CIS the contract to set up a national research competence center Challenges to Democracy in the 21st Century (NCCR Democracy).

Teaching

Since 2006, the CIS has been offering a specialized, scientifically-oriented Master’s degree, which is primarily aimed at students who are striving for a career in research. The two-year course includes in-depth training in social science methodology as well as research seminars in the areas of Democracy , Markets and Politics , Political Violence , Security Studies and Sustainable Development .
