Stefanie Walter

Stefanie Walter (* 1977 in Frankfurt ) has been Professor of International Relations and Political Economy at the Institute for Political Science (IPZ) at the University of Zurich since 2013 . Her research focuses on empirical-analytical analyzes of international economic policy, globalization effects and distributional conflicts.

Life and career

Stefanie Walter was born in Frankfurt in 1977. She began her studies in 1996 at McGill University (Canada) in political science and economics and continued it in Konstanz, Montréal and Barcelona in administrative sciences . In 2007, Walter completed her doctorate on the political economy of currency crises at the ETH Zurich . Research stays at the University of Zurich, the ETH Zurich and Harvard University followed. Walter received three appointments in 2008 and decided on Heidelberg University , where she consequently worked as a junior professor. She is a full professor at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Zurich. She holds the chair of International Relations and International Political Economy.

Stefanie Walter is married and has two children.

Research priorities

Walter's research interests include the politics of international financial and economic crises, the tension between sovereignty , democracy and international cooperation as well as distribution conflicts , the effects of globalization and the resulting party preferences.
