Central pharmacy
The Central pharmacy is a former residential and commercial building on Moerser Strasse in Duisburg- Homberg. The building has been a listed building since 2014 and is now home to a guest house, the design of which ties in with the former use of the pharmacy.
history
The building was built in 1913 on behalf of the pharmacist Max Ohly from Stotel . The executive architect was Walter Müller from Duisburg. In the design there are elements of Art Nouveau in transition to Art Deco .
The pharmacy is located in the geographical center of the 1907 merger of the communities of Essenberg , Hochheide and Alt-Homberg to form the city of Homberg . The name “Central-Apotheke” refers to the planned expansion and opening of the old Homberg town center in the direction of Hochheide.
Due to the freight traffic of the neighboring Rhine Prussia coal pits on Moerser Strasse, Schützenstrasse was planned as a crossing relief road in front of the pharmacy's head. These plans were interrupted by the First World War and not resumed.
Due to its location at the planned intersection of Moerser Straße / Schützenstraße, the building was designed with corner emphasis and an equivalent design on both sides of the street.
use
The ground floor was used as a pharmacy, while the first and second floors originally housed the apartment of the pharmacist family. The cellar was used as a medicine cellar and servants' rooms.
