history

The name Center Court is derived from the location of the main square, which until 1921 was in the center of all other places on Worple Road in Wimbledon. When the club moved to Church Road in 1922, the name was kept. The new stadium with a capacity of 14,000 was inaugurated by King George V. In 2009 a renovation of the stadium was completed. The capacity was increased from 13,800 to 15,000 and a lockable roof was installed. The modernized Center Court was inaugurated on May 17th, 2009 with a mixed between Steffi Graf / Andre Agassi and Kim Clijsters / Tim Henman .
