The Centro Canario , as it is known for short, has members on all seven islands of this autonomous community of Spain. It defines itself as the party of the center, in which politicians, for example from the Coalición Canaria (CC) and the Partido Popular (PP) , are involved.

history

The party was founded on September 25, 1992 as Centro Canario Independiente (CCI) . On January 28, 2006, it was renamed Centro Canario Nacionalista (CCN) . Its founder is the former President of the Canary Islands , Lorenzo Olarte Cullen . The current chairman of the party is Ignacio González Santiago .

In 1993 it was decided to unite independent party groups from individual islands to form the Coalición Canaria. These parties included the Agrupaciones Independientes de Canarias (AIC) , the Iniciativa Canaria Nacionalista (ICAN) , the Asamblea Majorera (AM) , the Partido Nacionalista Canario (PNC) and the Centro Canario Independiente (CCI).

In 2005 the Unión Centrista (UC) founded on April 2, 2003 and the Unión Tinerfeña Independiente (UTI) founded on November 15, 2002, an independent association of the island of Tenerife , are incorporated into the CCN.

On November 19, 2005, the already unofficial Centro Canario Nacionalista (CCN) called party decided to leave the Coalición Canaria again. In the course of the legislative period, some councilors from the Coalición Canaria joined the CCN. On January 28, 2006 the name change became official.

The CCN was able to put candidates in around 90 percent of the communities in the Canary Islands for the elections in May 2007. For example, she is now the mayor of Hermigua on La Gomera and was fifth with 3.93 percent in the parliamentary elections, which was not enough to enter the Canary Parliament.
