Centro de Aperfeiçoamento Técnico Agro-Pecuário ( CATAP ) is an agricultural school in São Tomé and Príncipe . It is based in Roça Piedade, an old country estate from the Portuguese colonial era , in the urban area of Trindade .
The school functions as a vocational school, as a training center, and as an institution to promote São-Tomé agriculture.
history
The school opened in 1988 on the Roça Piedade estate , in the Mé-Zóchi district . It was founded by the Italian NGO Nuova Frontiera and also supported by the European Union , the State of São Tomé and Príncipe, the United Nations World Food Program and the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives .
activities
The training center offers the following courses and training programs:
- Two-year training for young farmers
- Compressed courses on special topics (e.g. goat breeding)
- Diversification of agricultural production (agriculture, livestock)
- Financial assistance for graduates for the establishment of production groups and cooperatives, granting of microcredits
- Facilities for processing and distribution of agricultural and livestock products
- Entrepreneurial services for farmers
- Local crops reintroduction programs, center for rearing mounts and promoting equestrian activities
