The Centro de Saúde da Formosa ( German  Center for Health of Formosa ) in the East Timorese capital Dili is a communal health center for the medical care of the population. The historic building from the Portuguese colonial era is located on the corner of Rua Formosa and Rua de Bé Fonte streets in Suco Gricenfor ( Nain Feto Administration Office ). Diagonally opposite is the Xanana Gusmão Sports Center with the Kampo Demokrasia football field ( German  football field democracy ).

The Centro de Saúde da Formosa during colonial times

The first building of the center was built from 1954 to 1955 as part of the first development plan for the overseas provinces (1953-1958). The architect was the Portuguese José Manuel Galhardo Zilhão , who, on behalf of the government, also designed the buildings for Dili Airport (now Presidente Nicolau Lobato Airport ) and the current Presidential Palace of Guinea-Bissau . He worked in Portuguese Timor since 1952 .

The mothers center from 1958

The actual building consists of two wings that go off the street corner in a V-shape. In the wing on the south side there are treatment rooms, offices and the pharmacy, the east wing houses storage rooms and garages. The main entrance to the center with the reception is at the point where the two wings meet on the street corner. The front to the streets consists of two open galleries . An outbuilding was connected to the end of the wing in Rua de Formosa in 1956 and its narrow side faces the street. In 1966 a state pharmacy was established here. A mothers center was opened in 1958 in a separate building with a three-part facade and an H-shaped floor plan. In a north-south orientation, it extended the outbuilding of the main complex. In 1959, the last section to be built was the Endemic Disease Mission building, which was rebuilt in 1969 to serve as the headquarters of the Health Department.

The buildings still serve as a health center today and are therefore in good condition , unlike other buildings from the colonial era .
