Cephalocereus totolapensis is a species of plant in the genus Cephalocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Cephalocereus totolapensis grows with upright, non-branching, green shoots and reaches heights of 3 to 8 meters with a diameter of 12 to 15 centimeters. There are up to 28 blunt-edged ribs . The 3 to 6 white central spines have a darker tip and are 5 to 13 millimeters long. The 10 to 13 white radial spines are also 5 to 13 millimeters long. The pseudocephalium formed at the tip of the shoot consists of long, fine, yellowish, silky hairs up to 2.5 centimeters in length, which are often ball-like in tufts, and some bristle-like thorns up to 3 centimeters long. It is grown through annually and thus forms a series of rings.

The tubular to funnel-shaped flowers are pink with a yellowish tinge and are up to 3.5 centimeters long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with small scales and long white hairs. The spherical fruits are covered with scales, white wool and small thorns. They reach a diameter of 2.5 to 3 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Cephalocereus totolapensis is common in the southeast of the Mexican state of Oaxaca .

The first description as Neodawsonia totolapensis was published in 1959 by Helia Bravo Hollis and Thomas Baillie MacDougall . Franz Buxbaum placed them in the genus Cephalocereus in 1965 . Cephalocereus totolapensis is possibly synonymous with Cephalocereus apicicephalium .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
