Cereus bicolor is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet bicolor means 'two-colored'.
description
Cereus bicolor grows shrubby, is branched from the base and reaches heights of 2 to 3 meters. The cylindrical, blue-green shoots are divided into segments up to 90 centimeters long and 6 to 9 centimeters in diameter. There are seven to eight distinct, straight, blunt ribs with a height of up to 2 centimeters. The areoles on it are covered with whitish wool and are 1 to 1.5 centimeters apart. The resulting stinging, two-tone thorns have a black base and a lighter tip. The three to five central spines are 1.2 to 4.5 inches long. One of them is longer than the rest. The six to eight radial spines have a length of 4 to 15 millimeters.
The white, wide-opening flowers are 18 to 19 centimeters long. The oval fruits are yellow to red.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Cereus bicolor is mostly found on sandstone in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso , Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás , and more rarely on limestone rocks. The first description was published in 1985 by Carlos Toledo Rizzini and Armando de Mattos .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
