Cereus comarapanus is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the small Bolivian town of Comarapa .

description

Cereus comarapanus grows tree-shaped, is richly branched and reaches heights of 3 to 4 meters. A distinct trunk is formed. The cylindrical, blue-green shoots are divided into 20 to 80 centimeters long segments with a diameter of 15 to 20 centimeters. There are six ribs 7 to 8 centimeters high. The round areoles on it are light gray. The three to four needle-like thorns are directed downwards and arise from the lower part of the areoles. They have a length of 5 to 20 millimeters.

The white flowers are up to 13 inches long. The 8 to 9 centimeters long, egg-shaped fruits are dark bluish purple in color. They contain a magenta colored pulp .

Distribution and systematics

Cereus comarapanus is distributed in the Bolivian departments of Chuquisaca and Santa Cruz at altitudes of 400 to 1500 meters. The first description was published in 1956 by Martín Cárdenas .
