Cereus fernambucensis is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet is a misspelling of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco .
description
Cereus fernambucensis grows as a shrub, is richly branched and forms dense clumps of up to 5 meters in diameter. The cylindrical, segmented, pale green shoots , which often appear almost white, have a diameter of 6 to 10 centimeters. There are three to five thick, sharp-edged ribs that are somewhat wavy. The large areoles on it are initially brownish and later become whitish. The four to ten needle-like thorns are yellowish brown to bright yellow. They have a length of up to 5 centimeters.
The white flowers are up to 20 centimeters long. The 6 to 7 centimeters long, narrow, elongated fruits are purple-red. They contain a white pulp .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Cereus fernambucensis is found in northeastern Brazil along the coast. The first description was published in 1839 by Charles Lemaire .

- Cereus fernambucensis subsp. sericifer
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The subspecies were not recorded separately.
