The Cerro Armazones is a 3,046 meter high mountain in the Chilean Atacama Desert . Among other things, the hexapod telescope is mounted on the mountain .

The Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) with a main mirror 39.3 meters in diameter - consisting of 798 hexagonal mirror elements - is also to be installed there.

The mountain is particularly suitable for astronomy because it has 350 clear nights a year.

The Cerro Paranal with the Paranal Observatory of the European Southern Observatory is within sight, about 20 km as the crow flies .
