Château Brotte is a castle complex in the small village of Brotte-lès-Luxeuil near the town of Luxeuil-les-Bains in Franche-Comté .

history

The name Brotte appears for the first time in a bull of Pope Alexander III. in 1178. In this bull various domains are awarded to Lure Abbey .

The castle complex is documented for the first time in 1284. The château is a complex that was originally enclosed by walls and flanked by four corner towers. The foundations of the houses previously built in the castle courtyard can only be partially recognized. Two towers were completely demolished in the past centuries, as were the connecting walls. Today only the front with a large tower and a ruined tower can be seen. Most of the houses in the village were built with the stones from the château. In 1835 the Countess de Belay restored the great tower, from 1950 the castle fell into disrepair and was used as a barn and storage room. The Château has been privately owned since 1993 and is being restored piece by piece in accordance with the preservation of historical monuments.
