As an office, the national tariff organization ch-integral organizes and coordinates the interests of “ Direct Transport Switzerland ” - a kind of national tariff association for public transport . Within this construct, the transport companies involved are legally obliged to work together. This cooperation is organized jointly by ch-integral and the transport companies involved. Among other things, it ensures that uniform price rules, product ranges and common standards apply across all modes of transport and that several modes of transport and companies can be used with a single ticket. This ensures, for example, that travelers do not have to worry about whether their five-year-old child or the bicycle they have taken with them is treated differently when switching to another transport company. The best-known products are the general and half-fare card . ch-integral represents this industry, an association of around 250 transport companies, to the outside world.

Founding history

The coordination of direct traffic (DV), this association of Swiss transport companies, was the responsibility of the Swiss Federal Railways for a long time , which carried out this task as the managing body on behalf of all transport companies involved. With the constant growth to 247 participating companies (as of December 2017), the organizational effort of the office also increased. At the same time, a body independent of all companies participating in the DV was called for, which should work and coordinate impartially for the benefit of customers. That is why the DV office was decoupled from SBB in 2005 and joined as a department of the Association of Public Transport (VöV). Due to the further growth of both the DV and the office, the ch-direct department was finally detached from the VöV on June 1, 2016 and transferred to an independent organization in the legal form of an association.

As of December 2019, the office moved its headquarters to Länggassstrasse 7 and moved into new office space. At the general assembly on June 6, 2019, it was also decided to rename the association to ch-integral at the turn of the year. This in connection with the reorganization of the public transport sector, which came into force on January 1, 2020.

Organization and membership

ch-integral is in the legal form of an association within the meaning of Article 60ff. of the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB). The seat of the association is in Bern , the office space is in the Länggass quarter at Länggassstrasse 7. ch-integral is managed by the managing director Helmut Eichhorn.

The tariff organization is organized in three departments and a management support unit. 36 permanent employees work in the office.

All transport companies and associations that participate in the entire direct traffic or in individual direct tariffs , as well as the industry association, can become members of the association. The association currently consists of 74 members.

Tasks of the association

For many decisions in public transport, such as price measures, product range adjustments or passenger rights, it is not a single company but the entire industry that is responsible. Decisions on tariff issues, product ranges or sales channels are made in joint committees. As the mouthpiece of these bodies, it is up to ch-integral to provide information on the decisions made there. That is why ch-integral appears to the public as the “national tariff organization for public transport” and informs customers about relevant changes at regular intervals.

With its services for travelers and the industry, ch-integral is committed to uniformity, simplicity, economy and customer-oriented progress in the tariff system, the range of tickets, sales and the distribution of income. The primary tasks of the tariff organization are:

  • Representation of the branch of direct traffic to the outside
  • Communication of decisions from the various bodies
  • Support for the further development of direct traffic
  • Promotion of cooperation between DP and associations
  • Distribution of the income and costs in the DP to the participating transport companies.

Tasks according to Convention 510

The organization of the association is based on Convention 510, Annex 7 of which contains the specifications of the direct traffic office.

Dodger Register

The association is the national newly established dodgers tab. Since April 2019, all fare dodgers have been centrally registered there. By August 2019, the 80 transport companies involved had entered 277,000 personal data.
