Chat (snack)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chat ( Hindi चाट cāṭ , Urdu چاٹ; also Chaat ) refers to a range of hearty snacks that are typically sold at street stalls in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Originally from Uttar Pradesh , chats are now widespread across the Indian subcontinent and are constantly being supplemented by new variants. The word chat probably comes from the Hindi चाटना cāṭanā (chatna), which translated from Hindi means “lick”, “lick” or “slurp”.
