Chaetophora is an algae - genus from the class of Chlorophyceae . It was described by Franz von Paula cabinet in 1783.

description

Chaetophora forms macroscopic, hemispherical to spherical, light green cushions of strongly branched threads with cylindrical cells that are firmly attached to substrates . The cells have a wall-mounted ring or semicircular chloroplast with pyrenoids . From a small network of threads creeping over the substrate go upright threads embedded in a solid jelly. Their ends run out in crystal clear, multicellular, fine hair. Growth occurs through cell division in a zone at the base of the thread.

Reproduction

The asexual reproduction is carried out by large, viergeißelige zoospores that pass through a pore into the open and form new threads.

The sexual reproduction is carried out by fusing smaller, zweigeißeliger gametes (isogamy). The location of the reduction division is unclear.

distribution

Chaetophora lives firmly on plant stems and stones in flowing, both nutrient-poor and moderately polluted, often calcareous waters. Strongly acidic waters are avoided.
