The Chahar-Cheragh Square (also Car Cira , Persian چهارچراغ, DMG Čahār-Čerāġ , 'Four Lamps'; Kurdish مەیدانی چوارچرا Meydana Çarçira ) is located in the Kurdish- dominated Iranian city Mahābād .

Shortly after the Second World War, the short-lived Republic of Kurdistan was proclaimed on this square, which is one of the oldest in the city . After the republic was crushed by the central government of Mohammad Reza Pahlavis , the President of the Republic of Mahābād , Qazi Mohammed , and some of his ministers were hanged here . According to the Democratic Party of Kurdistan-Iran (DPK-I) , up to 50,000 people took part in demonstrations against the Iranian government during the unrest in Mahabad after the death of Shuaneh Ghaderi in 2005 .
