Qazi Mohammed
Qazi Mohammed ( Kurdish قازی محهممهد Qazî Mihemed , [ qɑːˈziː mɪhəˈmːəd ]; Persian قاضی محمد[ ɢɔːˈziː moɦæˈmːæd ]; * 1900 or 1901 ; † March 31, 1947 in Mahabad ) was the only head of government of the Kurdish Republic of Mahabad . He came from a distinguished family of clergy in Mahabad. Defense minister of the established republic was his cousin Mohammed Hossein Saif Qazi .
When the Kurds of Northern Iran proclaimed the Mahabad Republic under Soviet protection in Mahabad in January 1946, Qazi Mohammed became its president. He was also the leader of the ruling Democratic Party Kurdistan-Iran . From the beginning, however, he had problems getting the Kurdish tribes to his side. On the one hand, this was due to the mistrust of many Kurds against the Soviet protective power, on the other hand, it was also due to the fact that Qazi Mohammed did not come from a family of tribal leaders or sheikhs. Thus, from the start, Qazi Mohammed did not have enough authority. As part of the defeat of the republic, he was captured by the Iranian army and charged with riotingand condemned to death by hanging . On March 30, 1947, he was publicly executed in Mahabad, along with the ministers of his government, with the exception of Haji Baba Sheikh . With Ali Qazi one of his sons is engaged in the Kurdish movement.
