Chaim Kaufman

Chaim Kaufman ( Hebrew חיים קופמן; * December 12, 1934 in Tel Aviv , League of Nations mandate for Palestine ; † August 7, 1995 in Israel ) was an Israeli politician .

He was a member of the Likud Knesset from 1977 to 1988 and again from 1990 until his death in 1995, and from 1981 to 1984 deputy finance minister .

Life

Kaufman did his military service in the Israeli armed forces in the artillery ( Hebrew חיים קופמן) from. He then studied law in Tel Aviv.

In addition, Kaufman was a member of the Cherut , which together with other parties formed a joint electoral list with the Likud in 1973. In the elections for the eighth Knesset on December 31, 1973, he failed to enter the Knesset, but replaced Benjamin Halevi, who had left the Knesset, on January 19, 1977 and remained a member of parliament after the elections for the ninth Knesset in May 1977. Kaufman was also successful in the elections for the tenth (June 30, 1981) and eleventh Knesset (July 23, 1984). Under Prime Minister Menachem Begin , he was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance in the 19th government on August 28, 1981, an office that he held during the entire 20th government under Prime Minister Yitzchak Shamir from October 10, 1983 to September 13, 1984.

Although he lost his mandate in the 1988 elections, Kaufman returned on October 8, 1990 as a member of the Knesset to replace Zalman Shoval . He was confirmed in the 1992 elections, but died in his office on August 7, 1995. His place in the Knesset was taken by Josef Achimeir .
