John Milton's house

Chalfont St Giles is a town and civil parish in the county of Buckinghamshire . The River Misbourne divides the place in half.

The place name is derived from calcareous spring water. In 1086 it was entered in the Domesday Book , that is, before the Norman conquest of England .

In 1665 John Milton settled here because of the great plague of London and here he completed his text Paradise Lost . His house is now a sight.

The Lib Dem. Politician Nick Clegg was born here.

The partner municipality is Graft-De Rijp .
