The Indian tribe of Chaloklowa Chickasaw is in the state South Carolina in the southeast of the United States of America is home. They are descended from a group of Chickasaw who evaded displacement into Indian territory in what is now Oklahoma during the resettlement of the people in 1838 . Some members of the Chickasaw evaded deportation and subsequent discrimination by state law by concealing their Indian origins for several generations until the persecution ended. The name Chalaklova means "dancing turkey" and refers to the ritualized courtship dances of the turkey . The tribe is ruled by mingos (chiefs) and has started to build a small village as a museum and information center for the public. The tribe have managed to preserve many of the original customs and traditions through oral tradition and pow wows .
