Chambers Bay is an approximately 90 km long bay of the Van Diemen Gulf on the north coast of the Australian state of Northern Territory between Cape Hotham in the west and Point Stuart in the east.

To the east of Point Stuart is Finke Bay , to the west is Clarence Strait , which separates Melville Island from the mainland.

The bay got its name from John McDouall Stuart , who immortalized Elizabeth Chambers, the daughter of his friend James Chambers, in 1862.

The Mary River flows into the sea in the eastern part of the bay. In the western area, about three kilometers from the coast, is the approximately 2 km² Ruby Island .

Due to the sparse settlement, the area is on the one hand important for nature conservation, on the other hand a potentially attractive tourist destination, especially due to the relative proximity to the city of Darwin, which is only about 80 km away .

The bordering wetlands on the mainland are given international importance due to the constant presence of large numbers (up to 22,000) of birds, especially stilts and black godwit . Officially, it is assumed that the area meets the criteria for an area according to the Ramsar Convention .

In the past, the area was damaged by overgrazing by large numbers of water buffalo ; however, their number has decreased.
