The Chamera dam (also Chamera-I dam ) is located on the Ravi River in the Chamba district of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh .
The dam, completed in 1994, is located 50 km northeast of the city of Pathankot in Pir Panjal , a part of the Himalayas . It dams the Ravi and its right tributary Siul to form the 9.5 km² Chamera reservoir . The water level of the reservoir fluctuates between 747 m and 763 m over the year . The highest water levels are reached in the months of April to June.

The barrier structure forms a 295 m long and 140 m high weight arched concrete wall. The flood relief is designed for 21,760 m³ / s.
Hydroelectric power plant
A 6.4 km long inlet tunnel (⌀ 9.5 m) leads the water to the cavern power station ( ⊙ ). This has three units of 180 MW. The average annual output is 1664 million kWh. A 2.4 km long drainage tunnel ( ⊙ , ⌀ 9.5 m) guides the water back into the river below the confluence of the Sewa . The Ranjit-Sagar Dam is 20 km downstream from the Chamera Dam .
