literature

The language of the Chrétien de Troyes is characterized by characteristics of the Champenois. The earliest surviving literature on Champenois dates back to the 16th century. The Bontemps de Carnaval de Chaumont was published in an updated version in 1660 - the language used shows a contrast between the French of the king's messengers and the champenois of the local residents. A peculiarity of literature on Champenois in the 18th century were Christmas carols, which combined contemporary and local with religious texts.
