Chand Bibi (* 1550 ; † July 3, 1600 in Ahmednagar ), also known under the name Chand Khatun or Chand Sultana , was regent of Bijapur (1580-90) and regent of Ahmednagar (1596-99). Chand Bibi is known for her courageous defense of Ahmednagar in 1596 and 1600 against the attacks of the Mughal Emperor Akbar I. In the besieged city she was killed on July 3, 1600 by her own followers. She was militarily supported by Malik Ambar , who regained the city, which was conquered by the Mughals in 1600, for the sultanate and who later succeeded it as regent. Chand Bibi was the daughter of Hussain Nizam Shah I of Ahmednagar and sister of Burhan-ul-Mulk, Sultan of Ahmednagar. She was polyglot , spoke u. a. Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Marathi and Kannada. She made music, played the sitar and painted.
