Change Partners is a song from the soundtrack of the musical carefree by Dr. Flagg - Carefree . The song was composed and written by Irving Berlin . It is sung by Fred Astaire in the film . In the song, the singer asks a woman if she always has to dance with the same man, as she has done all evening, and asks her to dance with him once and even offers to have the previous dance partner called on the phone, to lure him away from the woman. The singer is certain that the woman may never want to dance with another partner once she has been on the dance floor with him ( "then / you may never want to change partners again" ).

As early as 1938, the song was recorded by Larry Clinton , Jimmy Dorsey , Bunny Berigan , Eddie Carroll, Jan Savitt , Glenn Miller and in 1941 in Germany by Charlie and His Orchestra . There are various other cover versions of the title, including by Herb Geller , Tommy Flanagan , Charlie Byrd , Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grappelli .
