Chantal Chawaf

Chantal Chawaf (born November 15, 1943 in Paris ) is a French writer .

She studied literature and art history before settling in the Middle East for a few years. On her return in 1974 she began to publish her first works in the "Edition des femmes" founded by one of the founders of the women's movement in France, Antoinette Fouque .

Chantal Chawaf's first novel “Retable. La rêverie ”already shows her very personal writing style, which will later be associated with the“ Ecriture féminine ”movement. Other books from this period are “Cercoeur” (1975) and “Maternité” (1979).

In her work, Chantal Chawaf examines topics such as the relationship between mother and daughter and couple relationships. She has traveled to the United States where she is translated and read in universities. She is the author of several novels and several plays and essays. She also runs a collection.
