The Chapman Rocks are a group of reef rocks in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . They are 5.5 km southwest of Desolation Island in Hero Bay on Livingston Island .

The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1962 after Thomas Chapman, a furrier from Bermondsey who had developed a method of using sealskin for hatters in 1795 .
