The Hero Bay is a large bay on the north coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies between Cape Shirreff on the northern tip of the John Paul II Peninsula and Williams Point on the northeastern end of the island.
The name Blythe Bay , actually intended for a small bay on the southeast coast of Desolation Island since 1822 , was mistakenly transferred to the bay described here in 1930. The name that is used today is named after the Sloop Hero , with which Nathaniel Palmer visited the South Shetland Islands between 1820 and 1821.
