The Kharkovchanka ( Russian Харьковчанка , German: the Kharkovin, plural Kharkovchanki) was a tracked vehicle that served as a means of transport for the Soviet scientific expeditions in Antarctica . The Charkowtschanki were from Kharkov Design Office of Mechanical Engineering ChKBM ( ХКБМ ) AA Morozov designed and since 1958 in Kharkiv Malyshev plant built.

The basis of the construction was the heavy chain tractor AT-T , for which in turn many parts of the T-54 tank were used. A Kharkovchanka weighed 20 t, could carry up to 5 t of cargo on board and pull sledges with a load of 40 t. The vehicle was designed for 6 expedition participants.

Next to the driver's cab is the navigator's place with an observation dome for astronavigation. The cabin is divided into several departments, including a common room , the radio cabin, an on-board kitchen , a toilet as well as a chamber for drying clothes and a rear exit lock. In order to be able to carry out repairs without having to leave the vehicle, the engine could be reached through a hatch.
