Zhongshan Station
The Zhongshan Station ( Chinese 中國 南極 中山 站 / 中国 南极 中山 站 , Pinyin Zhōngguó Nánjí zhōngshān zhàn - "Chinese Antarctic Station Zhongshan"; Sun-Yat-sen Station) is the second Chinese polar research station in the Antarctic . It opened on February 26, 1989 and is operated by the Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC).
The Zhongshan station is located in the Larsemann Hills area on Prydz Bay in East Antarctica , just 800 m from the Russian Progress II station and 2 km from the Australian - Romanian station Law-Racoviță .
The logistical task of supplying the Zhongshan station is taken over by the Chinese ice-breaking research vessel Xue Long ("Snow Dragon") with its annual trips.
The station accommodates around 60 people in the summer and around 25 researchers and technicians during the winter months.
