Charles Alderton
Charles Courtice Alderton (born June 21, 1857 in Brooklyn , † May 29, 1941 in Waco ) was an American pharmacist and inventor of Dr Pepper .
Life
Alderton attended Framlingham College in Suffolk and later studied medicine at the Medical Branch of the University of Texas at Galveston, Texas . After graduation, Alderton worked as a pharmacist at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store in Waco . When sales in the shop decreased, Alderton experimented with various fruit juice concentrates and spices. He created a drink that was originally sold in the shop from December 1, 1885 as Doc Alderton's Drink or The Waco for short , later as Dr Pepper . After sales of the drink increased significantly and the capacity in the shop was no longer sufficient, Alderton decided to continue working only as a pharmacist, sold the recipe to Wade Morrison and did not participate in the new company.
