Framlingham is a small town (market town) and township ( Civil parish ) in the district of East Suffolk in the county of Suffolk in England .

history

The place goes back to an Anglo-Saxon foundation and is mentioned in the Domesday Book . The Dukes of Norfolk, first the Mowbray family , then the Howard family from 1483 , resided at Framlingham Castle for over 400 years. In 1553, Mary Tudor was on the run at Framlingham Castle. Framingham , Massachusetts, was founded by emigrants from Framlingham . During World War II, there was an airfield for Royal Air Force bombers nearby .
