Charles Berthézenne

Charles Berthézenne (born January 30, 1871 in Valleraugue , † June 11, 1942 ibid) was a French politician. From 1928 to 1942 he was a member of the National Assembly .

Like his father, Berthézenne was first a hat maker . In 1904 he moved into the municipal council of his hometown Valleraugue, whose mayor he became in 1908. He enjoyed great popularity there and was also elected to the General Council of the Gard department in 1921 . In 1928 he ran for parliamentary elections and entered the National Assembly as an independent socialist. The politician, re-elected in 1932 and 1936, voted in 1940 for the Enabling Act of the Vichy regime . Although the parliament was de facto disempowered, he formally retained his mandate until May 31, 1942. He died a few days later in his hometown of Valleraugue.
