Charles Chaplin sr.
Charles Chaplin sr. (Born March 18, 1863 in Marylebone , London ; † May 9, 1901 ) was a British singer and entertainer in the British music halls . He was the husband of Hannah Chaplin and the father of Charlie Chaplin .
Work as a singer and entertainer
Chaplin first appeared on June 10, 1887 at the Poly Variety Theater in London. In 1890 the music publisher Francis, Day and Hunter brought out three of his songs ( As the Church Bells Chime , Everyday Life and Eh, Boys? ). In the summer of 1890 he toured the United States. He also appeared at the Union Square Theater in New York. After he had greater success from 1890 to 1896, he had to tour the British provinces from 1897. His last engagement can be traced back to September 1900 at the Granville Theater in Walham Green .
Back then, entertainers were expected to encourage visitors to drink. Quite a few entertainers therefore became addicted to alcohol themselves. As a result, Chaplin's career also ended early. He died at the age of 38 as a result of excessive alcohol consumption.
